Footnotes Privacy Policy

Footnotes is designed with privacy in mind. Your health data and story progress stay on your devices. We don't collect, store, or transmit your personal information to external servers.

1. Health Data (HealthKit)

Footnotes reads your step count and walking distance from Apple HealthKit to track your progress through stories. This data:

  • Is read directly from HealthKit on your device
  • Is used solely to calculate story progress
  • Is never transmitted to external servers
  • Is never shared with third parties

We do not write data to HealthKit. You can revoke HealthKit access
at any time in Settings > Privacy > Health.

2. Local Storage

Your quest progress, completed stories, and achievements are stored locally on your device. This data syncs to your Apple Watch via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework and remains within Apple's ecosystem on your personal devices.

3. Maps (MapKit)

Footnotes uses Apple MapKit to display maps and calculate walking routes between story waypoints. These requests are handled by Apple according to their Maps privacy policy.

4. Notifications

Footnotes sends local notifications when you reach story waypoints. These are processed entirely on your device and not sent through external servers.

5. Analytics & Tracking

Footnotes does not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking. We collect no usage data.
